The USHCC Congratulates BB&T Bank for Establishing Multicultural Branches

WASHINGTON, Dec. 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) applauds BB&T Bank for the recent expansion of its initiative to establish multicultural banking center branches. This initiative aims to increase multicultural banking centers by 35%, totaling 350 nationally between now and the end of the year.

According to Luis Lobo, Executive Vice President and Multicultural Markets Manager, "That is almost 20 percent of BB&T's total branch distribution." Lobo, who is heading this initiative stated: "The cost of converting or creating a multicultural banking center is not prohibitive. Half the battle is recruiting the right talent. We must have people who are culturally conversant: The language is important, but being part of the culture is even more critical."

"BB&T Bank proves yet again that they are innovators in diversity outreach through the leadership of Luis Lobo", said Javier Palomarez, President & CEO of the USHCC. "This initiative through cultural immersion is good for business, and shows a deep understanding of the Hispanic consumer. We are proud to have Luis and BB&T Bank as key partners, and we congratulate them on their good work with the community."

As part of the expansion, the multicultural centers will branded "Vecino", which means "neighbor" in Spanish, with a tagline of : "BB&T Vecino. Your trusted neighbor."
